There will be three nine-hour workshops which will provide trainings of very exciting Filipino folk arts, integrating Hong Kong with world’s other folk arts and cultures. The workshops include:
- Pangalay: Filipino traditional meditative dance in Mindanao
The refined, meditative, elegant
and traditional Pangalay Dance:
Pangalay also means “temple of dance” in
Sanskrit. It has the richest movement vocabulary. From the root word
"alay" which means offering, this explores movements that mimics the waves of
the sea and is a dance that emphasizes the agility of the upper body.
Pangalay is a living link to the traditional dance cultures of Asia, and it can
be danced to any type of music—Asian as well as Western.
At the end of the workshop, participants should be able to:
- recognize Pangalay as a form of dance and its importance as a form
- mount a short-piece based on Pangalay movements
- learn the dance in a tension-free atmosphere.
- Poi
dance: Performative juggling using fire, ribbons or led
balls, excellent for individuals or communities
The world popular Poi Dance:
Utilizing Fire, Ribbons or LED light balls, with
the agile movements of the waist and body,
the Poi illustrate traces of fire or rainbow in the air around the performers,
and the unlimited variety of Poi Dance Style makes it suitable for all
occasions.
And very importantly, Poi is easy to learn and good for individual as well as
group performance.
At the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:
- make your own unique Poi by daily life
materials (socks, tennis ball, etc.)
- learn and apply the basic skills of playing Poi
- create a small performance based on the Poi Dance movements
- learn the dance in a amusing and relaxed atmosphere
- Shadow puppetry: Storytelling using shadow theatre for families
and performers
The modern Shadow Puppetry for families and classrooms:
Creating lively characters/animals/objects/environment by simple paper/plastic
folder cutting,
and utilizing daily materials to make surprising lighting effect from light
bulb/projector/stage lights,
you can create Amazing Scenes of Stories of your own
At the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:
- advocate issues through Fairytale / Mythical stories through Shadow
Puppetry
- learn and apply a form that is suitable for family/classroom/stage by easy,
simple and daily-life materials
- enjoy the workshop in a fun and relaxed atmosphere
At the end of each workshop participants will be able to create a showcase utilizing the art forms, individually or in groups. (Each showcase will be performed together on 1, 3 Jan 2010 in Theatre.)
