Description

This workshop will focus on the importance of the senses , in the work of an expressive arts therapist. Participants will be encouraged to make purposeful, creative and integrative inquiries, into aspects of arts based theory and to use these inquiries to broaden an understanding of their own personal and professional development.

Questions and theory conversations will be a part of our collective work and will ground the divergent starting points of our learning and our research.

Workshop A

What happens when we follow the simple alchemy that begins in the hand as it opens outward and engages the imagination as it moves through multiple perspectives?

As the hand opens, the palm turns, the fingers extend and the work has begun.

Through the work of hands in creative expression, we will engage collaboratively, playfully and mindfully, to explore this reaching out, and shaping, that is at the core of creative expression.
The dynamic and essential interplay between the expressive and the receptive will be cultivated through the quality of deep listening and working from our silence.

The work will consider the principles of knowing through doing and the notion of the organic unfolding of multiple forms of expression within each form.

Renewal, resource and innovation are at the heart of this work.

This workshop will focus on the use of the visual arts in the atmosphere of the Atelier. Participants will be encouraged to follow their hands and their hearts and to enter into the great adventure of authentic inquiry. This way of working reaches for the essence of creative endeavour and is a stimulus for new models in the fields of health, psychology, the arts and the practice of everyday living.

Workshop B

What happens when we follow sensation as it moves in the boundless field of Imagination?

Through attention to a wide range of materials, we will ‘warm up ‘ and  ‘heighten ‘ the senses, in order to explore an increased awareness to physical imagination.

The work will consider ways in which presence is enhanced by sensory awareness, and the importance of embodied knowing, in the work of expressive arts therapy. The subtle process of doing and the transition into an experience will be explored.

Immediacy, spontaneity and aliveness are at the heart of this work.
